  When Thomas Guinnane married Sarah Elizabeth in 1917 we get some information On the marriage certificate she gives Age: 29 (so born Circa 1888) Status: Widow (so has previous husband) Father: John Joseph Thompson It is her father's name which causes the confusion. Her father was actually John Joseph Towers She married a William Thompson in 1908 What I think has happened is that she has been asked her name, Thompson Then asked her father's name and she has just said John Joseph It has then been assumed that her father was Thompson.
